Water Quality for the Protection of Aquatic Life

Freshwater

Concentration (µg/L)

Narrative

4.Streambed substrate
Note: Streambed substrate guideline values apply to actual and potential spawning sites.

fine sediment
The quantity in streambed substrates should not exceed 10% <2 mm, 19% <3 mm, and 25% <6.35 mm.

geometric mean diameter
Geometric mean diameter should not exceed 12mm.

Freddle number
Freddle number should not exceed 5mm

intergravel dissolved oxygen
Minimum of 6.5 mg/L

Note:
Guideline values apply to actual and potential spawining sites

Based on: Caux, P.-Y., D.R.J. Moore, and D. MacDonald. 1997. Ambient water quality criteria for turbidity, suspended and benthic sediments in Bristish Columbia: Technical appendix. Prepared for Bristish Columbia Ministry of Environment, Lands and Parks, Water Quality Branch, Victoria, BC.

The technical document for the guideline is available from British Columbia Ministry of Environment, Lands and Parks.
